Living ‘gens’

Two generations call Amber home It’s a family affair at Amber by Living Gems with two generations living in the same resort. Robyn Miners and her husband Kevin Adams recently purchased a home at Amber to downsize and be near Robyn’s parents who purchased at the resort in 2022. “I’ve been in Queensland for 30 years, with Mum and Dad still living at Cooma in the Snowy Mountains,” Robyn said. “I never thought they’d move up here but when they put their house on the market, I knew they were serious.” In helping her parents find a suitable home, they found the best value for money at Amber by Living Gems. Her parents, Daphne and Ken, could move into a brand-new home and not have to worry about maintenance. Best of all, it wasn’t too far from Robyn and Kevin, or their granddaughter Savannah, husband Lachie, and their fur-baby Digby. Digby used to stay with Robyn during the day while his parents worked but is now...

Children’s playground to enhance family time at Amber

A new children’s playground at Amber by Living Gems, set to be built in the second half of the year, will add a fun, family-friendly space to the huge range of facilities on offer at the resort. The eco-inspired playground, designed for children between four and 12 years old, will comprise a slide, two climbing walls that give kids multiple routes to the top platform, in addition to other interactive features to encourage creative play. Living Gems CEO Adrian Puljich said the playground would provide opportunities for more family time at the resort. “As a family business, Living Gems cherishes the importance of strong family bonds; this playground is a way to support this. Many of our homeowners are proud grandparents, and this kids’ space will be a wonderful spot to take their grandchildren for some outdoor playtime,” Adrian said. “Research has consistently shown the benefits of outdoor play on children’s physical and mental wellbeing,” he said. The playground equipment is designed for children of...

Sporty Sandra gets into the swing If you’re ever looking for Sandra Morgan, there’s a good chance you’ll find her on the golf course at least four days a week. On the other three days, look for her in the gym at Amber by Living Gems’ newly opened Country Club. Sandra, and husband Gary, moved into the resort in November last year and are settling in nicely, though Gary is still very much a ‘golf widow’. As he’s not much interested in golf, he’ll get to join Sandra in the gym. “I’ve always loved sports,” Sandra, 73, said. “Netball, hockey, and squash have always been my main sports although I stopped playing netball when I turned 60 and fell over. You bruise a lot more when you’re older. “When I was 68, I learned to play golf. I decided it was the best sport for me as people aren’t running into you and you can go at your own pace. “We were living on Coochiemudlo Island...

Signals Corp kept Les out of harm’s way

Les ‘Sprout’ Bean considers himself one of the lucky ones when it came to serving in the Vietnam War. As an electronics technician in the Signals Corp, he was sent to Vietnam and Singapore for signals exercises. “I was also in Vung Tao for a while where we sent communications back to Australia and New Zealand throughout the war. We had to carry a rifle, but I’m pleased to say I never had to fire a shot in anger. You could say mine was a pretty cushy job,” said the Amber by Living Gems veteran. Les returned several times to Nui Dat where he worked from an air-conditioned building. “I had it pretty good although the airport close by did get mortared at one stage, but we were okay and not in any danger.” Les was 17 when he joined the Army in June 1963 – a tour of duty that would last some 23 years. “Most of my time was spent from Victoria to Queensland...

Sailing into retirement

Couple taking all the hard work out of downsizing Indulging in fun, physical activities to keep fit and healthy instead of spending time undertaking endless maintenance around a large house, garden, and acreage was the inspiration behind Ross and Rhonda Lillistone’s recent move to Amber by Living Gems over50s lifestyle resort. Previously, the couple lived for 19 years on a property at Esk and with Ross, 69, enduring some health concerns, they decided they would downsize while they were still young enough to enjoy all the first-class facilities available within the Living Gems community. “We also wanted to be closer to family, especially our daughter who has undergone some brutal cancer treatment over the past 15 months, and ensure whatever happens in the future, we would be there if she needs us while also being safe, secure and totally independent ourselves. Living here allows us to do that without being a burden on our family,” said Rhonda, 72. The decision to move to Amber...
